Russian: vodka

VODKA - ВОДКА

Vodka is a distilled alcoholic drink. The word vodka comes from Russian водка (vodka = little water), composed of  вода (voda = water), and the diminutive suffix -ka (like in балалайка,  дедушка, and тройка.) Вода is linked to a Proto Indo-European root *au̯(e)-9- also present also in the words water  y whisky.

Here is a little Russian drinking song. It goes more or less like this:

Выпьем мы рюмку водки,
выпьем мы рюмку водки,
закружится голова.

Выпьем мы рюмку водки,
выпьем мы рюмку водки,
и тогда всё трын-трава

....

Налей, налей, налей
Бокалы полней!
Налей, налей, налей
Бокалы полней!
Let's drink a shot of vodka,
Let's drink a shot of vodka,
and then our heads will spin.

Let's drink a shot of vodka,
Let's drink a shot of vodka,
and then our worries will end..

....

Pour, pour, pour
Fill up the shot glasses
Pour, pour, pour
Fill up the shot glasses
